| Bentoel is a traditional Kretek producer since the 1930s (Kretek (or clove) are cigarettes made with a complex mixture of tobacco, cloves and a flavoring 'sauce'.) Bentoel is named after the root of the cassava plant. The Founder was before not very successful with his former clove cigarette brands but once he had a dream of a "bentoel" a holy man told him to rename his clove cigarettes under this name. The Manufacturer has a fine aromatic clove, its content gives a delicate spicy and fruity scent.
Innovative Bentoel started to buy cigarette machines in 1968 to manufacture machine made kretek cigarettes. Only after six years of constant efforts to make the perfect clove cigarettes and attain their individual tastes in filtered clove cigarettes, they finally succeeded. Filtered clove cigarettes before that time were all handmade, so the filter was attached by hand during the rolling process. The first produced machine-made clove cigarettes were Bentoel "Inter Biru".
