Drum is a brand of fine-cut hand rolling tobacco. It was introduced and distributed by the Douwe Egberts Company. Later Douwe Egberts was bought by the Sara Lee Corporation, which sold Drum to Imperial Tobacco, the current British manufacturer. After Douwe Egberts stopped Drum in the USA, Republic Tobacco of Glenview, Illinois, began producing its own version of Drum for the United States market, usually sold accompanied by a package of 1ΒΌ size JOB rolling papers. These two versions differ in flavors and cuts due to different methods of curing, but they both are halfzware (a combination of dark Kentucky burley and bright Virginia tobaccos).
The two versions of Drum are produced in different places and may have different sensory properties. European Drum is made in Netherlands using a centuries-old process, whereas the American one is produced at the Top Tobacco factory in North Carolina.
Drum tobacco is also available in Turkish, Plloto Cubano, Perique and more. Drum's main competitor in the US is Bali Shag rolling tobacco.
